7/29 – 1:30 am | Zone 3 – Poplar Street
While patrolling the area, a BIS Officer observed the trunk of a member's vehicle standing open while it was parked in the driveway of the member's residence. Because of the late hour, the Officer considered the situation unusual and attempted to contact the member at the front door. No one answered the door.
The Officer inspected the vehicle and found no signs that the vehicle or its contents had been disturbed. He attempted to close the trunk but was unable to do so. An email was sent to the member explaining the situation and the Officer's actions. The Officer cleared the incident at 1:35 am but continued to monitor the vehicle and residence during patrols throughout the remainder of the night.
7/30 – 12:00 am | Zone 6 – Star Ranch Road
While patrolling the area, the on-duty BIS Officer observed an unoccupied white Chevrolet Cruze with Indiana license plates parked outside a member's closed business adjacent to a construction site dumpster. The Officer contacted three individuals who were inside the dumpster. They stated they were searching for construction scrap.
The first individual was described as a White male in his 40s to 50s, approximately 5'7" to 5'8" tall, heavy build, bald, wearing a black and red T-shirt and blue jeans. The second was a Black male in his 20s to 30s, approximately 5'11" tall, medium build, with black hair, wearing a blue shirt and white shorts. The third was a White juvenile, approximately 12 to 15 years old, with blonde hair, medium build, wearing a green shirt.
The Officer advised the three individuals that they were trespassing on private property and instructed them to leave. They complied without incident. The Officer cleared the call at 12:10 am. Descriptions of the individuals were documented for future reference and shared with all BIS Officers.
7/31 – Routine Patrols Completed – No Reportable Incidents.
8/1 – 8:23 am | Zone 1 – Hazel Avenue
The day-shift BIS Officer received two calls, one from a BIS member and one from a non-member, regarding a possibly homeless White female in her 30s wearing dark clothing who was standing at the end of the street and appeared to be in need of assistance.
The Officer responded immediately and arrived in the area at 8:34 am. Upon contacting the female, she stated that she was lost. Although she appeared to be homeless, she did not appear to require medical attention or any other immediate assistance.
The Officer provided directions to the nearest bus stop and nearby businesses where she could obtain services if needed. She was also advised not to enter onto private property as she departed the area. No additional calls regarding the female were received. The Officer cleared the incident after ensuring the situation was resolved. The female's description was documented for future reference, and a subsequent patrol confirmed she was no longer in the area.
8/2 – Routine Patrols Completed – No Reportable Incidents.
8/2 – 5:53 pm | Zone 8 – Cheyenne Mountain Boulevard
The on-duty BIS Officer received a text message from a BIS member reporting a suspicious vehicle and individual at the member's residence. The member advised that a home security camera had captured an image of a dark gray SUV, although the license plate was not visible.
The Officer responded immediately and arrived at the residence at 6:00 pm. A search of the street and surrounding area revealed no suspicious vehicles or individuals. The Officer conducted a complete exterior security check of the residence and found no signs of attempted forced entry, property damage, or disturbance. All doors and windows were secure and intact. The Officer cleared the call at 6:05 pm.
At approximately 7:42 pm, after returning home, the member reviewed additional security camera footage and forwarded three videos to BIS. The videos showed a possible White or Hispanic male in his 20s wearing blue shorts, a white or gray T-shirt, a black baseball cap, black sunglasses, and white athletic shoes. The male had shoulder-length dark brown or black hair.
The videos further showed the suspect arriving in a small silver SUV and pulling into the member's driveway. After exiting the vehicle, the male appeared to attempt to enter a garage access code, but no entry was gained. Before leaving, he was also observed taking photographs or video of the front entrance to the residence.
All information, video footage, and suspect descriptions were documented for future reference and shared with all BIS Officers and the Colorado Springs Police Department.
