7/18…7:29 pm…Zone 8…Marland Road: A BIS Officer received a call from a BIS member reporting a suspicious vehicle parked near their home with several individuals sitting outside the vehicle. No description of the vehicle was provided at the time of the call.
The BIS Officer arrived on scene at 7:36 PM and observed an older model white Subaru Outback with Colorado license plates. Three Hispanic males, estimated to be between 18 and 40 years old, were standing by the vehicle. None of the individuals spoke English; however, one male was able to communicate by translating messages from Spanish to English via text, allowing limited conversation with the BIS Officer.
It was visibly evident that the vehicle’s radiator was leaking, as coolant was seen pooled beneath the engine area. The individuals explained via text that they were waiting for a friend to assist them. The BIS Officer offered to fill an empty antifreeze container, which one of the males provided, with water. The offer was accepted, and the BIS Officer left to obtain the water.
At 8:10 PM, upon returning with the filled container, the BIS Officer found two CSPD units on scene. The three individuals were no longer present. CSPD had responded to an unrelated burglar alarm at a nearby non-member residence and noticed the Subaru with its hazard lights activated, prompting a welfare check.
While the BIS Officer was speaking with the CSPD officers, the three males returned at approximately 8:45 PM, accompanied by a fourth Hispanic male driving a white Ford Ranger pickup truck. After evaluating the situation and the individuals involved, CSPD officers cleared the scene without taking further action.
The four males successfully attached a tow rope to the Subaru, and with the BIS Officer following behind with hazard lights activated, they were last seen traveling eastbound on Lake Avenue. The BIS Officer cleared the call at 8:50 PM.
