5/19…Nothing reported.

 

5/20…1:54 am…Zone 1…Mesa Ave: Received a call from an alarm company regarding an alarm activated at a member’s residence coming from the master bedroom window. The BIS Officer immediately responded and arrived at 2:00am. The BIS BIS Officer observed one vehicle with Iowa plates parked and unattended in the parking lot of the property. BIS Officer called CSPD due to the size and number of buildings on the property and the need to conduct a complete search to secure the facility. CSPD officers arrived at 2:35 am and along with the BIS Officer, conducted a full exterior search of the buildings on the property. All were secure and no signs of attempted forced entry were discovered. No damage to property was observed and nothing appeared missing or otherwise disturbed. Officers cleared the call at 2:46 am.

 

5/20…2:43 pm…Zone 1…Mesa Ave: BIS Officer received a call from a BIS member regarding a suspicious male walking around the exterior of the member's house. The male was described as wearing a red and yellow vest, yellow hard hat, carrying a shovel, and driving a white truck. The officer arrived at 2:51 pm and conducted a complete check of the exterior of the house. The Officer found no signs of attempted entry, property damage or other foul play. The suspicious male and truck were gone upon the Officer's arrival and could not be located in the area. The Officer logged the information for other BIS Officers and future reference. No other calls regarding the suspicious male were received. The officer cleared the call at 3:11 pm.

 

5/20…5:21 pm…Zone 1…Mesa Ave: BIS Officer observed a suspicious appearing white Chevy truck parked at a member’s residence that matched the description of the truck from the earlier call at 2:43 pm this same date.  The BIS Officer observed a HM, mid 30’s, wearing a reflective vest, get into the Chevy truck and then drive West on Mesa Ave. The BIS Officer contacted the members at this most recent location where the male was observed. The members advised the Officer that they tried to talk to the male when he was seen walking around the exterior of their house but the male did not appear to speak English. No other calls regarding this suspicious male were received. BIS Officer remained in the area and patrolled attempting to relocate the suspicious male and white pickup but was unable to do so.

 

5/21…7:08 pm…Zone 9…Marland Road South: Report received at BIS regarding a suspicious vehicle that had been seen entering a member’s driveway, then backed out and left the area. The vehicle was described as a gold/brown Mercedes SUV with temp tags and a cracked windshield. Picture of vehicle was sent to BIS for future reference and information sharing with all BIS Officers. No other calls regarding the vehicle were received.

5/23…8:29 pm…Zone 2…Lake Ave: While patrolling, a BIS Officer discovered an abandoned vehicle improperly parked in the bike lane just West of 6th Street on Lake Ave. Vehicle was an older model 4 door Ford Taurus with no license plates. The vehicle was possibly inoperable and exhibited signs of poor maintenance as the exhaust pipe was touching/dragging the ground. The vehicle appeared to be very dirty inside and cluttered with trash and food containers and was possibly abandoned. The BIS Officer notified CSPD who advised they would send an officer when available. The vehicle was towed and impounded by CSPD later this same date.

 

5/24…9:31 am…Zone 10…Penrose Blvd: Received a call from a BIS member regarding a suspicious vehicle observed in the area. The vehicle was described as a newer model, blue Honda Civic and it was occupied by a person wearing a reflective vest who was observed taking photographs. BIS Officer arrived in the area at 9:42 am and began searching for the vehicle throughout the area but was unable to locate it. No other calls were received regarding this vehicle and the suspicious driver. Information was logged for future reference and information sharing with all BIS Officers. The officer cleared the call at 9:58 am.

 

5/24…4:56 pm…Zone 3…Vine Street: Received a voicemail on the office telephone from a BIS member reporting a suspicious vehicle parked on Vine Street for the last four days (since May 21st). BIS Officer arrived at 5:46 pm and found a silver, mid 2000’s, KIA Spectra with dark tinted windows and Arizona plates that expire in 7/25. The vehicle was legally parked and unattended. Vehicle had numerous items appearing to be food trash and dirty/used diapers in the backseat. No car seats were seen in the vehicle. The vehicle appeared to be possibly abandoned. BIS Officer logged the vehicle information and monitored the area the remainder of the shift. The vehicle was still parked at the same location at 1:27 am. The BIS Officer notified CSPD of the potentially abandoned vehicle and was referred to Neighborhood Services to file a complaint/report. BIS Officer filled out an abandoned vehicle report with Colorado Springs Neighborhood Services through the city’s website.

 

5/25…10:57 am…Zone 2…Polo Drive: Received a call from a BIS member regarding a possibly homeless male described as a WM in his 20's, wearing a red sweater and gray pants, carrying a plastic bag. BIS Officer arrived at 11:01 am contacting the male at Polo Drive and Polo Circle. The WM stated he did not need assistance and that he was just taking a break and walking to the bus stop. The male did not appear impaired or otherwise to be having problems, He was advised by the BIS Officer to stay on the city street and sidewalks and not enter onto private property. No other calls regarding the possibly homeless appearing male were received. BIS Officer cleared the contact at 11:05 am but monitored the area and the individual until he left the area at approximately 12:00 pm.
