1/26 – 12:30 am | Zone 6 – Star Ranch Road
While on patrol, a BIS Officer observed footprints in the snow leading to a dumpster on a member’s business property. The Officer investigated and found a homeless-appearing male lying behind the dumpster in the snow. The male was wearing jeans, a shirt, and a lightweight jacket and appeared to be asleep or unconscious, possibly suffering from hypothermia. The ambient temperature was approximately -6 degrees. The Officer woke the male and determined he was in need of medical assistance. The BIS Officer contacted 911, and an AMR ambulance arrived at 11:48 pm. CSFD also responded and arrived shortly after the ambulance. The male was transported by ambulance to a medical facility. The BIS Officer cleared the incident at 1:07 am.
1/26 – 11:25 pm | Zone 6 – Star Ranch Road
While patrolling the area, a BIS Officer observed a key in a door leading to a storage room at a closed member’s business. The Officer checked the door, which was unsecured, and inspected the storage area. No individuals were located inside, and nothing appeared disturbed or damaged. The Officer secured the door, removed the key, and logged it for the day-shift BIS Officer to return during business hours the following morning. The Officer cleared the scene at 11:40 pm. The day-shift Officer returned the key to the business manager on 1/27.
1/27 – 7:11 pm | Zone 7 – Broadmoor Ave
A BIS Officer received a call from a member reporting a suspicious male in the area. The male was described as a WM in his mid-20s, wearing a trench-style coat and business shoes. The member observed the male running up the street, which appeared unusual given the time and attire. Several minutes later, the member observed the same male again and noted he appeared to be talking to himself. The BIS Officer arrived at 7:16 pm and conducted a search of multiple streets in the area but was unable to locate the individual. No additional calls regarding the male were received. The reporting member was contacted and advised the male was no longer observed in the area. The Officer cleared the call at 7:32 pm and continued monitoring the area for the remainder of the night. The description and information were logged for future reference and information sharing with BIS Officers.
1/28 – 8:15 pm | Zone 2 – Polo Drive
The on-duty BIS Officer received a call from a member who was away from home, advising that a neighbor had reported lights on inside the member’s residence. The member stated no one should have been inside the home. The Officer arrived at 8:22 pm and did not observe any lights on, vehicles, or suspicious individuals. A full exterior check of the residence was conducted, and all doors and windows were found intact and secure. No signs of attempted entry or criminal activity were observed. The member was recontacted and advised the residence was secure. The Officer cleared the call at 8:36 pm.
1/29 – 7:24 pm | Zone 5 – Springmeadow Drive
A BIS Officer received a call from a member who was away from home, reporting that a neighbor had observed two unknown males in the member’s driveway earlier in the evening. The neighbor contacted the males, who stated they were window installers looking for work. The males then left the driveway quickly. The BIS Officer arrived at 7:32 pm and conducted a full perimeter check of the residence. No signs of attempted entry or criminal activity were observed. The Officer checked the surrounding area but did not locate the individuals. No additional calls were received regarding the males. The reporting member was contacted and advised the residence was safe and secure. The information was logged for future reference and sharing with BIS Officers. The Officer cleared the call at 7:50 pm and continued to monitor the area for the remainder of the night.
1/29 – 11:51 pm | Zone 1 – Mesa Ave
The on-duty BIS Officer received a call from a member reporting a vehicle stuck on a retaining wall west of the member’s property. The Officer arrived at 11:55 pm and observed an older-model red and teal Toyota 4Runner with expired Colorado plates (May 2024) stuck on a low wall. The vehicle was occupied by a WF estimated to be in her 60s–70s, with white hair, wearing a gray hoodie and black pants. The Officer detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage inside the vehicle. The driver made several unsuccessful attempts to start and move the vehicle. Suspecting possible impairment, the BIS Officer contacted CSPD at 11:59 pm. CSPD and an AMR ambulance arrived at 12:05 am. The female driver was transported by ambulance to a hospital for medical treatment. The Officer cleared the call at 12:50 am.

2/1 – 6:15 pm | Zone 8 – Mirada Road
A BIS Officer received a call from a member reporting that a deer had been struck by a vehicle and was lying in the roadway. The Officer arrived at 6:22 pm and located the deer seriously injured in the eastbound lane of traffic. CSPD and Colorado Parks and Wildlife were notified at 6:23 pm. The Officer directed traffic around the deer while awaiting response. The deer subsequently expired, and the Officer moved it out of the traffic lane to the roadside. CSPD and Parks and Wildlife were updated and advised to disregard. The Colorado Springs Street Department was notified for animal removal. The Officer cleared the call at 7:01 pm.
