9/14 – 7:56 pm | Zone 7 – Broadmoor Ave

A BIS Officer received a call from a member regarding a suspicious vehicle parked on the street near the member’s residence. The vehicle appeared to be occupied and had reportedly been parked for approximately one hour with the engine running and headlights on.

The Officer arrived at 8:00 pm and observed the described vehicle at the reported location. The Officer contacted the driver, who identified herself as an exchange student and stated that she was unfamiliar with the vehicle and was practicing and learning to drive. The driver did not appear impaired or in need of assistance, and the Officer observed nothing else unusual or suspicious.

The driver left the area without incident. The driver and vehicle information were logged for future reference. The Officer cleared the call at 8:08 pm.

9/14 – 11:07 pm | Zone 2 – Berthe Circle

The on-duty BIS Officer received a call from a BIS member reporting that the burglar alarm at the member’s residence had been activated. The member was unable to determine where within the residence the alarm had been triggered.

The Officer arrived at 11:10 pm and observed no suspicious vehicles or individuals in the area. A complete check of the exterior of the residence was conducted, with no signs of attempted forced entry, property damage, or other suspicious activity observed.

The Officer attempted to contact the member at the front door but received no response. A telephone call to the member was also unanswered. The Officer left a voicemail advising that the exterior of the residence had been checked and appeared safe and secure. The Officer cleared the call at 11:20 pm.

9/19 – 11:33 am | Zone 9 – Pine Road

The day-shift BIS Officer received a call from a BIS member, who was out of town, regarding the activation of a burglar alarm at the member’s residence. The alarm had been activated at an unknown location within the home.

The Officer immediately responded and arrived at 11:41 am. No suspicious vehicles or individuals were observed in the area upon arrival, and the alarm was still audible. During a complete exterior check of the residence, the Officer discovered that a lower-level door at the rear of the residence had been forced open. The door frame was damaged and broken, the deadbolt showed signs of an attempt to drill and disable it, and the door handle had been broken off.

While preparing to notify CSPD, the Officer observed a black, mid-to-late 1990s model, two-door GMC SUV with dark tinted windows and green-style Colorado license plates slowly drive past the residence. The Officer was unable to obtain the license plate number. As the vehicle continued north on Pine Road toward Upland Road, the Officer observed that it appeared to be occupied by two individuals.

The Officer logged the vehicle description and notified CSPD at 11:49 am. CSPD Officers arrived at 12:04 pm and checked the interior of the residence. CSPD advised the BIS Officer that nothing inside the home appeared to have been damaged, disturbed, or taken. It appeared that the audible alarm and/or the arrival of the BIS Officer may have caused the individual or individuals to leave the property.

The BIS Officer notified the homeowner of the results of the inspection and the damage to the rear door. The suspicious vehicle information was logged for future reference and shared with BIS Officers. The Officer cleared the call at 12:25 pm.
